Colours of a Woman’s Love (Mā)

Teal lotus flower illustration on warm gold background — decorative floral motif.

Colours of a Woman’s Love reimagines the ancient Aṣṭa Nāyikās through a contemporary lens — and then turns, tenderly, toward the women who shaped Debbie’s world.

Rooted in Bharatanatyam and guided by mentor Divya Kasturi, the piece blends mudras and abhinaya with contemporary movement, voice and an original score created with Prathap Ramachandra and Vijay Venkat.

Lullaby contours, spoken names and remembered touch form a sound-world where the syllable “Ma” shifts between light and shadow — tracing a life from daughter to mother, and the love that grief does not erase.

Currently sharing a 30–40 minute R&D version.

Each performance opens with a vibrant curtain-raiser showcasing early-career dancers.

Outline illustration of two hands reaching out and holding each other, symbolising connection or support.
