Embracing change

New Bharatanatyam work by Debbie Ganguli-Patel. Shaped by rhythm, storytelling and tradition.

Satyam Dance began as a place to learn, but it has always been more than a school.

Founded by Debbie Ganguli-Patel, our work keeps Bharatanatyam true to its roots while speaking to the world we live in now.

Debbie’s artistic practice sits at the heart of this next chapter. Guided by the traditional guru–shishya lineage (trained under Sri Prakash Yadagudde at the Bhavan, London), each new work honours the classical form while allowing it to breathe and change.

At the centre is the lived experience of women — how the body carries memory and resilience, how female dancers over forty can find renewed strength and voice, and how dance can explore identity, gender and belonging today.

Guided by the Ashta Nayikas, Debbie moves through love, loss and a tribute to her late mother, with additional choreography by Divya Kasturi and original music made with Vijay Venkat and Prathap Ramachandra.
